21st Century Cures Act Propels the Future of Regenerative Medicine

The Senate voted yesterday to clear the way for 21st Century Cures Act to advance research and biomedical innovation in the United States. This bill is expected to be signed by President Obama in the next few days and allocates $3 billion for clinical research including utilizing adult stem cells to further the field of regenerative medicine in treating degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, and ALS.

Accelerating breakthroughs toward earlier diagnosis and advanced treatments with adult stem cells will allow more patients to experience an increase in not just their health, but also quality of life. Deb Hepler, from Union City, Tennessee, has experienced first-hand the benefits of stem cell treatment for Parkinson’s Disease. After being diagnosed seven years ago, she quickly lost her ability to drive, walk and write. She declined neurological surgery and opted instead for stem cell treatments and physical therapy at IMAC Regeneration Center of Paducah. “I was to the point of not being able to do anything much, just sit and read. Now, I am able to get up and cook – I am driving again and I can write a note to people. It’s just wonderful.”

IMAC Regeneration Centers was founded to provide the most innovative, integrative, health care treatments to patients which may include utilization of adult stem cells. We are fortunate to witness the life-changing effect stem cells have on our patients that are suffering from diseases that currently have no cure. The 21st Century Care Act will allow IMAC Regeneration Center medical doctors and practitioners to adopt future innovations while under FDA approval and existing regulatory standards.

“It is not surprising that 85% of the Senate voted to pass this bill,” said Jeff Ervin, CEO of IMAC Regeneration Centers. “IMAC Regeneration Centers continue to collect evidence each day of excellent orthopedic outcomes utilizing regenerative medicine and it is obvious that the bipartisan support for the 21st Century Cures Act recognizes the success of these therapies. IMAC Regeneration Centers would like to thank all six Senators voting to approve the Act that represent locations for which IMAC will practice medicine in 2017;” (Kentucky Senators McConnell and Paul, Missouri Senators Blunt and McCaskill, and Tennessee Senators Alexander and Corker).

Our hope is the 21st Century Care Act will increase the awareness of the clinical efficacy of regenerative medicine and broaden the positive impact patients can experience in treating such life-threatening diseases. Equally important is making sure medical clinics delivering these services maintain the highest standard of care possible. As when seeking any medical treatment, it is imperative to research a provider to be certain they are a licensed medical doctor, and in the case of regenerative medicine, they are well-trained to deliver care utilizing a person’s own adult stem cells.
